Gems instead of diamonds for engagement rings?

Truthfully, would you be upset if you recieved a blue sapphire and diamond 3-stone engagement ring on a white gold band instead of all diamonds?

I think it sounds beautiful, as long as it isn’t over the top (ridiculously big sapphire/diamonds). I would love that ring =] If I didn’t already love mine so much lol
Not at all. When I got engaged (which has since ended), the ring was a gold band with 5 tanzanite stones and 8 small diamonds. I loved it because it was so unconventional.

I would be a bit upset. I’m very traditional and I really like the idea of an engagement ring being all diamonds. I received a blue sapphire and diamond right hand cocktail ring as a gift once and I loved it, but it just didn’t say “engagement ring” to me.
However, I know an older women (on her second marriage) that has quite an expensive sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Since it’s her second marriage, it works for the situation. But, it’s not for me and it’s not my idea of an engagement ring (for myself, at least)

i gave my gf a ring that had a princess cut diamond in the middle and on one side a emerald cut emerald and the other side was emerald cut amethyst the 2 side stones are our birthstones.
I believe Prince Charles gave Lady Diana a blue sapphire (center stone) that was surrounded by smaller diamonds.

My engagement ring is a pink heart shaped sapphire and I love it. My fiance went out of his to pick something that he knew I would love and that was so much more style, instead of just getting a traditional boring diamond ring.
Me? No, because I’m not into the expense of diamonds. In fact, I asked for an aquamarine in my ring, instead.
Now – if you think diamonds are the only way to go? Yes, I could see being upset.

No way!! I’d rather have a gemstone, they’re different than every other girl’s diamond rings. I’d be so stoked if I got a sapphire ring, they’re GORGEOUS!
Absolutely not, I am considering requesting just that actually. Blue is my favorite color, sapphire is my fiance’s birthstone, and sapphires are more in our budget and allow for us to get a better ring overall. I’d love it!
I’d be upset if I received a ring I didn’t choose. My engagement ring is blue topaz/white gold, and I chose it myself.
I wear a 2.5 ct oval shaped brilliant cut flawless deep red almandine garnet framed by 1 ct of round champagne diamonds set in 14 kt gold as an e-ring. Garnets are my husband’s birthstone and I happen to love them.
If he had given me a diamond, it would have been a colored one, hopefully a canary, champagne, or chocolate one.
So no I would not be upset…I much rather have a unique ring than the same old white diamond ring that everybody’s uncle wears.
if that’s what the bride wants, then that’s what she should get. but you shouldn’t buy a girl anything but diamonds without discussing it with her first. if you have never talked about engagement rings with her, and you don’t want to because you want it to be a surprise, then you better get her a diamond unless you know for SURE that she would wear sapphires. I’m not big into jewelry but if my fiance had randomly bought me a sapphire ring I would have been like wuh? heh? confused.

It sounds like thats the ring you got. Honestly I would be upset, even though it sounds like a beautiful ring. A lot of times men try to be different and creative, thinking that it will be appreciated, but when it comes to weddings and engagements, most women like to stick to tradition! Men and women are so different and think so differently, and a lot of times they don’t understand eachother. So try not to be upset, and maybe it can be traded for a more traditional ring
Guys do this all the time. Center stone is a diamond and 2 side stones are sapphires or rubies. It’s beautiful, acceptable and valuable.
