Would a 1.3 carat engagement ring be too big for my ring size and age?

My boyfriend and I are looking at a 1.3 carat engagement ring at a wonderful price. I'm scared it might be too big on my small fingers and I dont want to look like Im trying to show off or that it's fake. I'm also 19 years old, so would 1.3 carats be too much?
This is the ring:

thats such a beautiful ring omg! of course not!
no 1.3 carat ring is too big!lol congrats!!!
Just thought you might want to that’s not a diamond. Moissanite & diamond is not the same.
it depends on the person, i wish my husband bought me that! im 20 and wouldnt mind one bit if that rock was on my hand!! very nice you should have him get it
Hi!
I’m 20 and if my boyfriend wanted to buy me a ring like that then I would say more power to him! lol we’re getting engaged sometime this spring, but we haven’t even started looking for rings… I think I just found a starting place though!
just kidding…
But anyway, I think it’s absolutely gorgeous and I don’t think it will be to big/gawdy/fake looking at all! And, if anyone does say anything then they’re probably jealous anyway.
That is a nice ring size… my ring is a little bigger and my ring size is 5 doesn’t look like im trying to show off! It’s no one fault our hands and fingers are too small!!!! Im only 24… LOL =) enjoy it!
No way that size is too big!! I think when you get near the 2 carat point its getting ridiculous….
I have a 1.3 carat white gold engagement ring also! But my ring has the full 1.3 carat in the one stone, yours has 3 stones + diamonds on the band so it doesnt look as big.
I have petite hands also and it just looks gorgeous
I wouldnt trade it for the world. Rings start looking show offish and fake also when they are shapes and cuts that are ridiculously not tradtional (eg triangle).
I think your ring is perfect for you and dont forget its about what its symbolises, if anyone has any negative to comment then they are just jealous and brush them off with grace.
good luck to you and congratz =]
EDIT: O i just noticed the price… im really hoping for your sake that you get to see before you buy! for that amount of carat at that price you need to be careful cos you dont want it looking fake cos the colour is terrible and the clarity is no good. Have a research around, go to the jewelers and ask to see different grades of diamonds. you will notice the difference and see what level you can go down to. then find out the grading of the diamond in the set you love. be careful, cos 1.3 carat is a lot for a diamond that looks bad quality, it will be noticeable. just to compare with quality i got the best (D colour, VS2, excellent cut) 1.3 marquis diamond for a bit under $10,000 au. I know, huge difference thats what i mean, be careful cos the quality might be a shocker (well it will be) so perhaps your safer to go smaller diamonds with better quality.
I wear a size 5 ring and I just have a 1 carat diamond solitaire. Each to their own, but I personally like a simple setting.
Of course its not too much but they aren’t real diamonds either.
Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.
Careful! Moissanite is not the greatest synthetic diamond. it has a tendancy to show yellow hues. its cheap yes, but really not worth it.
If he doesnt want to shell out the cash for a real diamond then check out Carat, they are cultured diamonds made the same way that nature makes diamonds only in a controled lab.
I have a size 6 ring finger too. And if the ring was a solitaire, with a single 1.3 carat stone centered, yes, it would look too big. However this is the tcw – the total carat weight of all the stones. This is a three stone ring, with pave accents. So no, I don’t think it would be too big. And I love moissanite! But some people either love it, or really don’t. Have you only seen it online or in person? If you have never seen an actual moissanite stone, I would suggest going to a store that sells it (JCPenny does) and asking to see a piece of jewelry. In the case, under the glass the jewelry is under special lights that make it look better. So ask if you can see a ring or something outside of the case, and try it on, So if you like the appearance of the stone. Some people can’t tell moissanite from diamonds, some people actually prefer it, and some people just don’t like it as well as any other created stone.
no it will be fine i wear a 6 and i have a 2 ct princess cut with diamonds on the side
To each their own but I love my half carat solitaire. I’m 5′1″ and have a very small frame, my ring is a 4.5. I tried on .75 carat and it was way too big for my hand. It looked awkward and out of place. I actually asked him specifically to get me a half carat because I don’t need a huge rock to show off, just a nice one. I would much rather prefer beauty over size. I was 19 when I was proposed to as well.
Also, moissanite isn’t a diamond, they are two separate gems. They aren’t fake diamonds but they aren’t diamonds either.
You’re getting married and you love him -show it off!! lol Don’t let other people’s opinion of the ring on your finger bother you. It’s a symbol of his love for you. My fiance supprised me with a 1.5 diamond ring (large diamond in the middle with six smaller ones around the front of the band) and i’m also 19 with very small hands (size 4) and i absolutely love it.
That’s a lot of bling; I’m a mature woman and wouldn’t even want to wear that. Plus, I’m not sure of that price for a used ring.
For a similar price or less, you can get real diamonds as well (funny that you said you didn’t want it to look like it’s fake…)

The ring is pretty but a bit much for my style. As mentioned before it is not a diamond ring…rather a different stone that has similar properties to that of a diamond. It does look showy but many brides like that. It also does say it has Rhodium which is a finish put on the metal to make it look shinier. Rhodium wears off over time and if the quality of metal under it is poor…the ring will look dull. I think they recommend redipping rhodium rings every 1-3 years for rings that get heavy wear….so that is a potential expense.
So if you don’t want a diamond ring -then that is a good alternative. Price is a bit high for it not being a diamond in my opinion.
that is a nice ring . I am not into big Diamonds. I am glad mine is only 1/4 of a carrot with 4 small diamonds on each side. I didn’t even want a diamond engagement ring.
The 1.3 carats are spread out over a few stones so the size is fine.
I’m a ring size 6 and 3/4 and my center stone is a 2.5 carat aquamarine, which I think is gigantic (its what my fiance picked!!) but I’ve gotten used to it.
My only comment is that I think that ring is really overpriced. Moissanite isn’t a diamond – it is a gemstone – and that price tag is crazy for it! Also, moissanite is very often created, meaning its lab-made and not mined from the ground.
As an alternative, here is a very pretty 1.7 carat total white topaz ring set in 14k gold for UNDER $500:
http://www.jewelsforme.com/item-main.asp?ItemNumber=2001RC-14&Gemtype=04&Metal=W&ItemMonth=&Ad=&CU=
You do realize this is NOT a Diamond – therefore the great price.
Also, it’s not too big. Danni is wrong when she says that over 2 carats is too big. Maybe over 5 carats. I saw someone with a 7 carat ring that looked stupid.
I don’t think that setting w/a total weight of 1.3 will look to big at all!! Now, if it where a solitaire1.3ct it could possibly, but I think since it’s more of a 3-stone look that it will be fine.
First let me say beautiful ring……and my pinkie finger is a size 6 (lol, I’m a retired baker so my hands are larger from years of kneeding dough) so….I put a gemstone ring that I own that’s approximately the size of the diamonds in that ring…..looks fine to me……..
Your total gemstone weight on that ring is 1.3 carats, that means each stone itself is less than a full carat…I’m guessing the largest stone is about 1/2 ct and the side stones are a wee bit more that 1/4 ct each….based on my guestimate I’d say the ring is perfect for your size…..and ‘east to west’ or side by side designs have the same impact as large stones or ‘north to south’ settings without the bulk, and are especially flattering on a smaller hand….so I’d say don’t worry…good luck.
Edit: moissanite is not cheap, it runs about 500 US dollars per 1/2 carat..it can be off color (greenish or grayish) so I would examine a moissanite first hand (pun intended lol) before buying….and it is a gemstone in it’s own right, not a ‘fake’ diamond after all, are white sapphires fake diamonds?…..the smaller the diamond ’substitute’ the more diamond-like it looks so your ring will not look fake at all, especially since it isn’t fake, it’s a moissainte. On the moh scale of hardeness diamonds are a 10, moissanite are 9.25, the next hardest are sapphires at 9…I would buy a white sapphire before a white topaz because it’s more durable (topaz runs about an 8 on the moh scale along with peridots and I believe garnets thus requires more care in wearing)
i wear a size six ring. my engagement ring is .3 carats. i wanted a very clear near perfect diamond and not a very big one. i got a smaller diamond b/c I thought it looked better on my hand. my diamond is a round cut. when I looked at another cut though I thought it needed to be 1 carat. I think you should just get what you want, maybe go to a jewelry store and try some on to see.
An engagement ring with a 1.3 carat diamond would be something I would expect to see on the hand of a woman whose fiance was financially well off. That would be easily a $10,000-$20,000 ring. If your fiance does not have the kind of job or financial circumstances that would allow him to purchase a ring in that price range, people will know it’s fake. If you don’t care what they think, then by all means, go for it. But it sounds like you DO care. I think you would be better off spending the money on a much smaller, good quality diamond, and then upgrading when you can afford it.
